The backup functionality allows stand-alone users to save a copy of the local Client Tool database at any point in time. Because the Client Tool is connected to a SQL Server database, any regular system backups that you perform will not backup your local Client Tool database. In addition to regular backups, it is recommended that you perform a backup of your database before you import, retrieve, or restore a previous version of your database, and after you successfully submit data to the EPA Host System.
Note: Shared database users cannot backup a shared database using this method. Your Database Administrator should perform regular backups of the shared database.
The Backup function described below applies to stand-alone local databases only. If you use a shared network database version of the Client Tool, you will need to have your SQL Server database administrator perform the database backup.
To backup your local Client Tool database, perform the following steps:
1) Close the Client Tool.
2) Navigate to start --> all programs--> ecmps --> ecmps client --> ecmps configuration utility
3) From the top menu of the ecmps client tool configuration screen, select maintenance --> database backup.
4) Verify the backup directory path.
5) Click the backup databases button.
Three .BAK files will be created in addition to an XML file. To restore the Client Tool database, you will need to select the XML file.
It is important to note that the Client Tool database backup files can be large, so saving multiple database backup files on your computer may affect your computer performance. If you backup your Client Tool database often, you should consider saving your database backup files to a separate drive or disk or deleting old database backup files from your computer when they are no longer in use.
